Social-emotional Education

Social-emotional Education

The social-emotional education is a constant and permanent education process which tries to boost the emotional development as an essential complement to the cognitive development, both being essential elements in the development of the global personality.

In order to achieve that, we suggest the development of emotional knowledge and abilities with the purpose of preparing the person to face everyday life challenges correctly. All of this has the aim to improve the personal and social well-being.

In International School Peniscola we understand that the emotional education is a constant and permanent education process, because it has to be present throughout all the academic curriculum and throughout all life.

The Emotional Education is present in all the stages, from ISP Baby Garden until ISP Bachillerato.

We include the Social-emotional Education in the stage of International School Peniscola Secundaria (students aged from 12 to 15) because current research studies are proving that the development of programmes of Emotional Education has a positive impact on the students in some cognitive and non-cognitive variables. These are:

  • Improvement of the academic performance of the students.
  • Significant reduction or avoidance of behaviour problems (for example: disruptive, aggressive or antisocial behaviour), drug consumption, anxiety and depression symptoms.
  • Improvement or encouragement of positive behaviour and attitudes towards themselves, towards the others and the school, such as self-concept, prosocial behaviour and school and community participation.

With the social-emotional education we try that students:

  • Acquire better consciousness of their own and others’ emotions.
  • Encourage self-esteem and self-consciousness.
  • Boost interpersonal relationship skills in order to improve their social interactions.
  • Know and apply new strategies of emotional regulation.
  • Appreciate the importance of happiness and optimism as personal features when it comes to face life situations.
